Dr. Stephen B. McAlpin

Dr. Stephen B. McAlpine, is our most recent addition to the Central Air Ambulance team.  Dr. McAlpine serves as the Central Air Ambulance medical director and is responsible for directing our quality assurance program and supplying medical direction for in-flight patient care.  

Dr. McAlpine’s distinguished career includes both military and civilian emergency medicine, international sports medicine, Emergency Medical Services and overseas duty as a flight surgeon.  He is currently licensed to practice in both Florida and Georgia and also serves as the Senior Regional Medical Officer and Chief Medical Officer, Atlanta Region for Team Health Southeast.  Dr. McAlpine was a member of the US Army Medical Corps from 1978 to 1988 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Major.

Dr. McAlpine is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine and did his Emergency Medicine residency at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.  He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Georgia College of Emergency Physicians, the Society of US Army Flight Surgeons, USAMC, and the American Heart Association.  Additional, Dr. McAlpin is a Diplomat – American Board of Emergency Medicine, a Fellow – American College of Emergency Physicians and US Army Flight Surgeon.

Dr. McAlpine is a basketball enthusiast and has served as n NBA Staff Physician traveling with NBA exhibition teams and professional teams, including the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, China.
